Inch Cape Offshore Wind Farm Completes Installation of All 54 Transition Pieces
All 54 monopile transition pieces have been installed at the Inch Cape offshore wind farm in Scotland, marking a key construction milestone just two months after the monopiles were placed. Each 28‑metre‑tall, 8.3‑metre‑diameter piece weighs about 700 tonnes and provides the interface between the monopiles and the turbine towers.
The heavy‑lift crane vessel Seaway Alfa, operated by Seaway7, carried out the installations from Forth Port’s marshalling yard in Leith, loading six pieces per trip. Project Director John Hill called the achievement “a major step forward” that opens the site for the next cable‑laying campaign and turbine installation later in the year. Senior Project Manager Niamh Thompson highlighted the collaborative effort of designers SLPE, fabricators CWHI and CFHI, Forth Projects, Global Energy Solutions and Seaway7.
With the transition pieces in place, the focus now shifts to installing 54 pin piles and the 18 jacket foundations scheduled for later this year.
