Incheon City citizens overwhelmingly support expanding kickboard-free streets
Incheon City has announced that 97.5% of surveyed citizens support the expansion of its 'kickboard-free streets' policy. The initiative, which restricts personal mobility (PM) devices like electric scooters to improve pedestrian safety, has been operating as a pilot program since April in three sections across Yeonsu-gu and Bupyeong-gu.
The survey, conducted among 200 residents aged 18 to 59, indicated significant positive perceptions of the pilot. Respondents reported improvements in the walking environment (48.0%), a reduction in PM traffic (47.5%), and decreased collision risks (43.0%). Additionally, 88.0% of participants viewed the policy as necessary, with 74.0% stating it helps establish traffic order and pedestrian safety.
When asked where the restrictions should be expanded first, 46.7% of respondents prioritized areas around schools, followed by residential areas (31.8%) and commercial districts (17.9%). In response to these findings, Incheon City plans to enhance its guidance systems and gradually expand the restricted zones following consultations with relevant agencies and safety reviews.
