Incheon conducts maritime safety inspections for fishing vessels

Incheon Metropolitan City is conducting joint maritime safety inspections of fishing and recreational vessels through November 30 to prevent accidents during the busy autumn fishing and travel season.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, the Incheon Coast Guard, and other relevant agencies, the inspections will target high-risk vessels. This includes aging vessels under 10 tons, those with previous accident histories, and small-scale fishing or recreational boats with two or fewer crew members.

Key inspection areas include engine room equipment, the availability of life jackets, lifebuoys, and fire extinguishers, the functionality of navigation and communication devices, and the management of passenger manifests. While minor violations will be corrected on-site, serious offenses such as operating under the influence or exceeding passenger capacity will face strict administrative penalties. The city is also promoting the mandatory use of life jackets for all crew members and compliance with fishing gear registration systems.
