Incheon Council member proposes K-Culture Stadium for Munhak Stadium

Incheon Metropolitan Council member Kim Woo-sung has requested the inclusion of 300 million won in the second supplementary budget for a feasibility study to transform Munhak Stadium into a ‘K-Culture Stadium.’ The proposal aims to repurpose the facility into a multi-purpose complex that integrates sports and performing arts, serving as a hub for K-pop and K-content.

The initiative is a preemptive response to the anticipated vacancy of the stadium following the professional baseball team's planned relocation to Cheongna in 2028. Kim emphasized the need to secure funds through the current supplementary budget rather than waiting for the 2027 main budget, noting that research and basic planning are expected to take approximately one year.

Munhak Stadium currently features a main stadium with 49,000 seats, a baseball stadium with 23,000 seats, and other facilities such as the Park Tae-hwan Swimming Pool. The plan seeks to leverage the site's accessibility via airports, ports, and railways to drive tourism and revitalize local commercial districts, including the nearby Seonhak-dong area.
