Incheon expands mobility services for the transportation vulnerable
Incheon Metropolitan City is expanding mobility support services for the transportation vulnerable to eliminate service gaps. The city plans to introduce multi-passenger special transportation vehicles by the end of this year, capable of carrying three wheelchair users and three guardians simultaneously, with full operation scheduled for January 2027.
To improve service reliability, the city will increase the number of special transportation vehicles to 284 by 2027 and expand voucher taxis to 350 units. Current plans include replacing 10 aging vehicles and installing pedal misoperation prevention devices on an additional 50 vehicles by October. In the Yeongjong area, service hours have already been expanded to 24 hours.
Furthermore, the eligibility for voucher taxis for individuals with developmental disabilities will be broadened starting January 2027. The expansion will include social service recipients who face difficulties using public transportation due to cognitive or communication constraints, moving beyond the current restriction to only those with severe physical walking disabilities.
