Incheon fishing port facilities show high aging rates

National fishing port facilities in Incheon are experiencing significant aging, with an aging rate of 23.1%, which is higher than the national average of 19.8%. According to data from the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries analyzed by National Assembly member Kim Sun-kyo, 12 out of 52 national fishing port facilities in Incheon have been in operation for over 30 years.

Nationwide, the number of aging facilities has risen steadily from 130 in 2021 to 233 as of August 2026. The aging rate of external facilities, such as breakwaters, is particularly high at 26.7%, more than double the aging rate of mooring facilities (13.2%). Specifically, 39.4% of breakwaters are classified as aged.

Concerns have been raised regarding safety risks and the degradation of port functions. Experts emphasize that aging breakwaters pose a high risk of major accidents during severe weather conditions, such as typhoons, necessitating preemptive inspections and reinforcement measures to ensure the safety of fishing vessels and maritime activities.
