Incheon groups demand end to regional policy discrimination

Civic groups and local government officials in Incheon are intensifying efforts to address regional policy grievances and infrastructure needs. The Incheon Economic Justice Citizen's Coalition has issued a statement condemning what it describes as “policy discrimination and double alienation” under the central government's balanced development framework.

The coalition specifically cited the differential electricity rate system for industrial regions, which excludes Incheon from benefits despite its high power self-sufficiency rate, and the potential relocation of public institutions that could further marginalize the region. They have called for a unified civic movement to demand fair treatment and greater fiscal autonomy.

Simultaneously, the Yeonsu-gu district office is pursuing a three-stage policy proposal strategy, moving from Incheon City to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and finally to the National Assembly. The district is seeking legislative changes and national support for critical local issues, including the expansion of regional transportation networks like the GTX-B and Incheon Line 1, the establishment of a Songdo Police Station to meet rising security demands, and various environmental and legal reforms.
