Incheon hosts birdwatching competition at Songdo Tidal Flat
Incheon Metropolitan City hosted the ‘2026 Incheon Marine Protected Area Birdwatching Competition’ at the Songdo Tidal Flat, marking the first event of its kind in the Seoul metropolitan area. Approximately 100 domestic and international birdwatchers participated in the event held on the 9th.
During the competition, participants recorded 377 observations of 79 different bird species. Notably, the presence of endangered species, including the black-faced spoonbill and the Saunders's gull, highlighted the ecological importance of the Songdo Tidal Flat as a critical habitat and migratory route for birds traveling between East Asia and Oceania.
The program included birdwatching activities, ecological lectures, and educational sessions for beginners and families. The event aimed to raise public awareness regarding the conservation of marine ecosystems and the necessity of balancing urban development with biodiversity preservation.
