Incheon implements emergency response for hydrogen buses
Incheon Metropolitan City will implement a 45-day emergency response system for hydrogen buses from October 6 to November 19. This measure addresses potential disruptions in liquid hydrogen supply caused by scheduled maintenance at the SK Incheon Petrochemical plant.
The maintenance, conducted in accordance with the High Pressure Gas Safety Control Act, is expected to affect liquid hydrogen production for both Incheon and hydrogen buses nationwide. In Incheon, hydrogen buses account for approximately 600 of the 2,500 city and regional buses, representing about 24% of the fleet.
To minimize service disruptions, the city plans to distribute charging demand by utilizing both existing liquid hydrogen stations and alternative gaseous hydrogen stations. While the city aims to maintain standard dispatch intervals during peak commuting hours, some routes may experience longer intervals or delays depending on charging congestion and supply conditions. Incheon has been coordinating with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and local transport companies to manage the situation.
