Incheon International Airport faces record holiday traffic and local infrastructure demands
Incheon International Airport is preparing for record-breaking passenger volumes during the Chuseok holiday period. Incheon International Airport Corporation predicts that approximately 247,018 passengers will use the airport on the final day of the holiday, approaching all-time daily records. To manage the influx, the corporation is implementing special transportation measures, including opening departure halls 30 minutes early, increasing security personnel, and expanding smart services such as self-check-in and self-bag drop.
Separately, residents of Yeongjong Island are campaigning for improved infrastructure to better connect their community to the airport. A local petition is calling for the construction of new entry and exit ramps at the Geumsan Interchange (IC) on the Incheon International Airport Expressway. Currently, the interchange only allows access toward Seoul, forcing residents to take lengthy detours via the Yeongjong IC to reach the airport. Residents argue that direct access would alleviate traffic congestion, support local commerce, and boost tourism in the Yeongjong International City area.
