Incheon International Airport faces security and travel safety updates

At Incheon International Airport, the Integrated Security Labor Union has called on the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Seoul Regional Aviation Administration to conduct a field investigation into X-ray security screening practices. The union claims that due to staffing shortages, security personnel are working X-ray interpretation shifts for one to two hours continuously, violating regulations that state such tasks should not exceed 45 minutes. They warn that fatigue and decreased concentration could lead to failures in detecting prohibited or dangerous items.

In response, Incheon International Airport Security Co., Ltd. acknowledged the staffing issues and announced that an internal evaluation team will begin a field investigation next week. The company stated it has requested the recruitment of approximately 100 additional personnel to address the shortage.

Separately, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs conducted an overseas travel safety campaign at Incheon International Airport. Alongside student supporters, the ministry encouraged travelers to check safety information for their destinations via the official overseas travel safety website and application, and to utilize the Consular Safety Call Center in case of emergencies.
