Incheon International Airport reduces parking congestion through management reforms
Incheon International Airport reported a significant reduction in parking congestion during the recent summer vacation season, despite a 6.2% increase in daily passengers compared to the previous year. The airport's maximum parking saturation rate dropped to 89.4%, a notable decrease from the 102.5% peak recorded during the same period last year.
This improvement follows a comprehensive restructuring of parking management implemented by the Incheon International Airport Corporation on July 1. The reforms focused on prioritizing passenger convenience by reclaiming 3,266 parking spaces for travelers, which represents 51.4% of the existing short-term parking capacity. This was achieved by reducing the number of long-term parking passes issued to resident employees, repurposing valet parking areas, and opening the Second Joint Government Building parking lot to the public.
To mitigate the impact on the approximately 94,000 resident employees, the corporation introduced additional shuttle bus services and new dedicated shuttle routes. Looking ahead, the corporation plans to expand the short-term parking capacity at Terminal 2 by 1,300 spaces by 2031 to meet growing demand.
