Incheon launches healthcare-associated infection prevention campaign
Incheon Metropolitan City is conducting a Healthcare-Associated Infection (HAI) Prevention and Management Week from October 12 to 16. The initiative aims to promote a culture of infection prevention among medical staff, patients, guardians, and caregivers.
To address rising concerns regarding multidrug-resistant bacteria and the increasing number of vulnerable populations, such as the elderly, using medical services, the city is emphasizing key protocols. These include proper hand hygiene, appropriate use of personal protective equipment, environmental cleaning and disinfection, adherence to standard precautions, and management of patients with multidrug-resistant bacteria.
As part of the campaign, the city is hosting an online quiz challenge via QR codes through October 15, with 500 participants set to receive prizes. Additionally, Incheon is implementing long-term strategies to combat Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE), operating regional infection disease networks, and conducting specimen surveillance programs to strengthen local infection control capabilities.
