Incheon Mayor Park Chan-dae unveils ‘Incheon Rerating’ vision

Incheon Mayor Park Chan-dae marked his first 100 days in office by unveiling the ‘Incheon Rerating’ vision, an initiative aimed at elevating the city's value by overcoming regulatory constraints and border-area limitations. The strategy focuses on three pillars: finding Incheon's true value, growing together with South Korea, and improving citizen lives.

Key economic goals include fostering ‘ABC+E’ industries—Artificial Intelligence, Bio, Contents, and Energy. This includes establishing a global AI hub and expanding the Songdo bio-cluster from production to research and startups. To boost international standing, the city is officially bidding to host the 2028 G20 Summit and proposing a ‘Korean Peninsula East-West Peace Logistics Highway’ connecting Yeongjong to Gangwon Province.

On the domestic front, Park has addressed fiscal challenges through a ‘Fiscal Budget Reform Task Force,’ which led to restructuring expenditures and resuming the ‘Incheon e-Eum’ local currency cashback program. However, the administration faces ongoing pressure from civic groups to balance fiscal health with social welfare, and from the need to secure national support for major railway expansions and the preservation of public institutions.

Additionally, Park conducted field inspections of the Cheongna Medical Complex, where excavation is underway. The project aims to develop a major medical hub, with the selection of a main contractor expected by the end of the year.
