Incheon Metropolitan City launches special local tax arrears settlement

Incheon Metropolitan City has launched a special period for the settlement of local tax arrears, running from this month through the end of the year. The initiative aims to secure stable local finances and realize tax justice through a ‘two-track’ approach.

Under this plan, the city will provide support for livelihood-type delinquents who struggle to pay due to economic difficulties, such as high interest rates and inflation. These individuals will be offered customized collection methods, including installment payments, and may be linked to welfare services to support their recovery.

Conversely, the city will apply a zero-tolerance policy toward high-value and habitual tax evaders who possess the ability to pay. The city is deploying 134 members of the Local Tax Revenue Delinquency Management Team to conduct field investigations of residences and businesses, even tracking those living outside of Incheon. Additionally, enforcement against vehicles with unpaid automobile taxes will be intensified, including night-time wheel locking and forced towing operations.
