Incheon Metropolitan Council scrutinizes supplementary budget allocations

The Incheon Metropolitan Council is scrutinizing recent supplementary budget proposals, focusing on fiscal management for economic zones and educational safety.

In the Economic Free Zone Special Account, Council Member Cho Min-kyung raised concerns regarding the deposit of 330 billion won into the city's integrated management fund for 2027. Despite budget cuts for major Songdo development projects—including the waterfront, sewage facilities, and the K-Bio Lab Hub—Cho argued that the scale of the deposit requires more detailed annual investment plans to ensure funds are available for upcoming projects through 2030.

Simultaneously, the Council's Education Committee reviewed the Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education's 2026 supplementary budget. Committee members criticized the prioritization of superintendent campaign projects over essential student safety and teacher protection. Specific concerns were raised regarding the premature allocation of funds for land acquisition at the Nanjeong Peace Education Center before research was completed, as well as insufficient funding for asbestos removal in schools.
