Incheon municipalities work to strengthen legal support for civil servants

Local governments in Incheon are working to strengthen support for civil servants engaged in proactive administration. While the central government is revising regulations to lower the threshold for legal and investigative support, some municipalities in Incheon, including Incheon City, Ongjin-gun, and Gyeyang-gu, have yet to establish specific rules to implement these protections.

Among the nine districts that have already implemented rules, most provide legal fees for disciplinary procedures and criminal investigations. However, some areas like Namdong-gu and Yeonsu-gu reported that despite having rules in place, there have been no actual cases of support provided, citing complex procedures and a lack of awareness among staff.

Upcoming revisions from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety aim to simplify the process, allowing civil servants to receive legal support through a simple application rather than requiring prior deliberation by an administrative committee, provided there is no evidence of misconduct.
