South Korean museums and palaces offer free admission for Chuseok holiday
Various cultural institutions and tourist sites across South Korea are offering free admission and special programs during the Chuseok holiday period.
In Incheon, five major museums—including the Incheon City Museum, Songam Art Museum, and the Korea Immigration History Museum—will operate normally. Highlights include exhibitions on Joseon-era intellectuals, traditional woodworking, and a special exhibit commemorating the 80th anniversary of Korean prisoners returning from Hawaii after World War II. Children's programs, such as dolmen-building experiences and traditional spinning top kit giveaways, are also available.
Major art institutions in Seoul and beyond are participating in the holiday festivities. The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA) and the Seoul Museum of Art will offer free admission to various galleries, featuring works by artists such as Do Ho Suh and Yoo Young-kuk. Private institutions like the Leeum Museum of Art and Daegu Gansong Art Museum will also remain open, though some may close on the day of Chuseok.
The Korea Tourism Organization has recommended several travel destinations, noting that the four major palaces in Seoul, Jongmyo Shrine, and all Joseon Royal Tombs will be open to the public for free. Additionally, national natural recreation forests and various cultural festivals, such as the Namsangol Chuseok Festival, are scheduled to provide diverse experiences for travelers.
