Incheon officials focus on infrastructure oversight and senior employment success

Jo Seong-hwan, the first chairperson of the newly established Environment and Transportation Committee of the Incheon Metropolitan City Council, has pledged to focus on field-centered inspections to ensure citizens feel tangible changes in policy implementation.

Following the restructuring that merged the former Industrial Economy and Construction and Transportation committees, Jo aims to address interconnected issues such as vehicle emissions, public transit, and environmental preservation. Key priorities include modernizing sewage treatment facilities, managing waste disposal capabilities in response to landfill restrictions, and overseeing large-scale railway projects like the Seoul Subway Line 7 extension to Cheongna.

Separately, Incheon Metropolitan City has received the grand prize in the senior job project comprehensive evaluation hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare for the second consecutive year. The city created 58,221 senior jobs last year, exceeding its initial target by 105.1%. These initiatives include partnerships with private companies like GS25 and collaborations with the Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education to provide diverse employment opportunities for the elderly.
