Incheon officials urge inclusion of GTX lines in national railway plan

South Korean officials and local leaders are calling for the inclusion of critical transportation projects in the upcoming 5th National Railway Network Plan, scheduled for announcement in November.

National Assembly member Kim Kyo-heung has urged the government to incorporate the GTX-D Y-line, the GTX-E line, and the extension of the Daejang-Hongdae Line to Cheongna into the plan. These measures aim to alleviate long commute times for residents in the northwestern metropolitan area. In response, the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport acknowledged the current transportation challenges and confirmed the November timeline for the plan's release.

Additionally, Son Hwa-jeong, the head of Yeongjong-gu, has emphasized the need for three core railway networks to support Incheon International Airport's competitiveness: the GTX-D (Y-line) and E lines, the KTX extension to Incheon Airport, and a second airport railway. These developments are framed as essential for national economic growth and regional connectivity.
