Incheon police identify five wood processing firms for air pollution violations

The Incheon Special Judicial Police have identified five wood processing companies for illegal activities related to air pollution control. Following a planned investigation conducted between late last month and early this month, authorities inspected 42 facilities in the region to ensure compliance with air emission regulations.

The investigation revealed several violations, including one facility operating without reporting the commencement of air emission and prevention facilities, and another failing to conduct mandatory self-measurements of air pollutants. Additionally, two businesses were caught leaving emission and prevention facilities in a broken or damaged state, while one company failed to complete required training for environmental technicians.

Under the Clean Air Conservation Act, failure to report the start of facility operations can result in up to one year in prison or a fine of up to 10 million won. Failure to conduct self-measurements of pollutants can lead to up to five years in prison or a fine of up to 50 million won. The Incheon Special Judicial Police plan to refer the cases to the prosecution after further investigating the intent behind these violations.
