Incheon traditional arts groups win awards at Korea Folk Arts Festival

Incheon-based traditional performing arts groups received major honors at the 67th Korea Folk Arts Festival held in Pyeongchang.

The Eun-yul Talchum Preservation Society's youth division earned the Grand Prize (Minister of Education Award) in the youth category. Composed of elementary, middle, and high school students, the group performed mask dances such as the Yangban, Lion, and Miyalhalmi dances, which depict social satire and the lives of commoners. This marks their second consecutive year of recognition following an Excellence Award in 2025.

In the general category, the Incheon Coastal Island Sangyeosori Preservation Society was awarded the Transmission Award. The group performed ‘Haengsang Nori,’ a traditional funeral song used during the process of escorting the deceased to a burial site. The performance featured unique melodies and narratives specific to the island regions near Incheon, blending ritual, labor, and song to showcase local folk life.
