Incheon secures additional funding for marine debris cleanup
Incheon Metropolitan City has secured an additional 146.3 million KRW in national subsidies to expand its river and estuary waste purification projects. This brings the total national subsidy for the current year to approximately 2.2 billion KRW, up from the original 2.056 billion KRW.
The funds are intended to prevent marine pollution by collecting waste that flows from rivers and estuaries into the sea. The additional budget will be distributed to Ganghwa-gun (46.3 million KRW) and Ongjin-gun (100 million KRW) to immediately support the collection, transport, and processing of waste in these areas.
In a separate environmental effort, the Incheon Environmental Corporation, alongside citizen volunteers, conducted a cleanup at Seunggi-cheon Stream in Yeonsu-gu. The activity focused on removing fallen leaves and household waste from walkways to improve pedestrian safety and prevent accidents during the autumn season.
