Incheon stabbing suspect Choi Chung-rak identified after mass attack

Choi Chung-rak, a 59-year-old man with over 10 criminal convictions, has been identified as the suspect in a mass stabbing at a commercial complex in Guwol-dong, Incheon. The attack, which occurred on January 13, left eight people injured, including a 19-year-old woman who remains in critical condition. Choi is facing charges of attempted murder and possession of a weapon in a public place.

During the incident, several citizens were praised for their bravery. One restaurant owner used a chair to subdue the attacker, while others created a barricade with chairs to prevent the suspect from reaching a nearby kids' cafe. Online communities have since organized movements to support these local business owners.

Investigations revealed that Choi was under electronic monitoring with a relatively low-risk 'concentration' grade, despite a history of two prior attempted murders. He reportedly targeted vulnerable individuals to gain media attention following grievances regarding medical treatment. Authorities are currently investigating whether his possession of significant cash suggests a planned attempt to flee.
