Incheon to expand commemorative projects for Park Du-seong and Korean Braille
Incheon Metropolitan City is launching a comprehensive initiative to honor Park Du-seong and promote the use of Hunmaengjeongeum, the Korean Braille system, marking the 100th anniversary of its promulgation.
As part of the project, the city will correct historical inaccuracies on a memorial stone at Yulmok Children's Park, which incorrectly listed Park's birth year as 1898 instead of 1888 and misidentified his birthplace. The city is also revising local ordinances to shift focus from supporting specific organizations to funding direct commemorative, educational, and promotional activities.
Planned initiatives for 2025 and 2027 include registering additional cultural heritage sites, establishing an archive, hosting academic conferences, and organizing sensory tours. Additionally, the city aims to improve information accessibility for the visually impaired by producing guides for public institutions on providing Braille documents and strengthening the public Braille document request system.
