Incofer launches continuous train service for Costa Rica's Cartago Romería

The Instituto Costarricense de Ferrocarriles (Incofer) will operate a continuous rail service between San José and Cartago for the annual Romería pilgrimage to the Basílica de los Ángeles on August 1‑2. Trains will depart hourly from 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, shifting to roughly every 35 minutes after 8:00 p.m., and will run until midday on Sunday. The operation, overseen by Incofer executive president Álvaro Bermúdez, aims to transport about 26,000 passengers and uses DMU trains with the standard fare of ₡710.

In addition, the transport ministry will deploy more than 130 extra buses and set up provisional stops near the basilica, coordinated with the Traffic Police and Cartago Municipal Police. Vice‑Minister of Transport Sofía Fallas highlighted the joint effort to manage the high demand and maintain order during the pilgrimage.
