Income Tax Department provides digital payment and refund guidance
The Income Tax Department offers several digital methods for taxpayers to manage their liabilities through its e-filing portal. Taxpayers can pay advance tax, self-assessment tax, and outstanding dues using credit cards via authorized payment gateways. While this provides flexibility for those short on immediate funds, users should be aware that convenience fees and interest charges may apply.
Other available payment modes through the e-Pay Tax facility include debit cards, net banking, and UPI. The service can be accessed in both post-login and pre-login modes using PAN/TAN verification.
Regarding refunds, taxpayers who have overpaid through TDS, TCS, or advance tax are eligible for an income tax refund once their return is processed. A refund typically takes four to five weeks to be credited to a bank account following the e-verification of the return. Delays may occur due to incorrect bank account details, IFSC codes, PAN-Aadhaar linking issues, or pending tax demands.
