Dermatologists link intense autumn hair loss to summer UV exposure
Dermatologists report an increase in seasonal hair loss during the autumn, noting that while hair shedding is a natural physiological cycle, the intensity of loss in 2026 appears particularly high.
Experts attribute this heightened shedding to several factors, most notably increased exposure to ultraviolet radiation during the summer months. This radiation can cause scalp inflammation, oxidative stress, and follicular obstruction. Other contributing factors include high temperatures, stress, vitamin deficiencies (such as Vitamin D), and iron deficiency, particularly in women.
Medical professionals advise that losing up to 1,800 hairs per week is normal. However, if hair loss persists for more than two months or is accompanied by significant scalp inflammation, individuals should consult a specialist. Experts also clarify that frequent shampooing does not increase hair loss; in fact, maintaining a clean scalp is essential to prevent negative impacts from sweat, smog, or helmet use.
