Incumbents re-elected as mayors in Nanaimo and Oak Bay
Municipal elections in British Columbia have resulted in the re-election of incumbents in Nanaimo and Oak Bay.
In Nanaimo, Leonard Krog secured a third term as mayor with 40.7 per cent of the vote, defeating runner-up Sarah Lovegrove. Krog’s platform focused on infrastructure, community services, and managing city growth. The Nanaimo city council will consist of six returning incumbents—Ben Geselbracht, Paul Manly, Hilary Eastmure, Sheryl Armstrong, Erin Hemmens, and Ian Thorpe—alongside two new members, Andréa Coutu and Marnie Boers.
In Oak Bay, Kevin Murdoch was re-elected to a third consecutive term as mayor, winning 75.2 per cent of the vote against challenger Samuel Holland. While the mayoral position remains unchanged, the Oak Bay council will see three new members: William Moore, Roxanne Helme, and David Gleeson. Three incumbents, Andrew Appleton, Carrie Smart, and Lesley Watson, will not return to the council. The new council faces upcoming challenges regarding housing development, municipal finances, and the future of the Oak Bay Marina.
