Indaiatuba establishes regulatory sandbox for technology testing

The municipality of Indaiatuba has sanctioned Law No. 8.576/2026, establishing the Indaiatuba Sandbox Program. This legislation creates a controlled regulatory environment designed to allow companies, startups, universities, and public agencies to test innovative technologies in real-world conditions.

Under this model, pilot projects are authorized through a Temporary Authorization Term, which defines specific locations, deadlines, performance metrics, and objectives. The program targets strategic sectors for smart city development, including urban mobility, energy efficiency, environmental management, and digital government through the use of artificial intelligence, Big Data, and the Internet of Things (IoT).

To protect municipal resources, the program requires that all testing entities bear the full financial costs of experimentation, including any necessary urban repairs or infrastructure works. The initiative also mandates strict compliance with data protection laws to ensure the security of residents' information.
