Indaiatuba worker dies after wall collapse during sewage repair
Josmar Aparecido dos Santos, a public servant for the Autonomous Water and Sewage Service (Saae), died on Friday after being struck by a collapsing wall during a sewage network repair in Indaiatuba, Brazil.
The accident occurred on August 29 on Rua João Timóteo de Andrade when a slope shifted, causing a condominium wall adjacent to the work site to collapse. Mr. dos Santos was hospitalized in the intensive care unit at the Hospital Augusto de Oliveira Camargo (Haoc) but succumbed to his injuries after six days.
Another worker sustained minor injuries during the incident and was later discharged. The Saae has launched an internal investigation to determine the cause of the slope displacement and the subsequent wall collapse to establish responsibility.
