Peru declares GLP supply emergency in southern regions

Peru has declared a 30-day emergency regarding the supply of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (GLP) in the southern regions of Arequipa, Cusco, Puno, Moquegua, and Tacna. The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) cited risks of supply interruptions caused by heavy rains and road closures on the Panamericana Sur, which hinder the transport of fuel from Pisco and Callao. Osinergmin has been tasked with implementing transitory measures to ensure continuous supply.

In other regional developments, agricultural sectors are facing climate-related challenges. In Chile, the Institute for Agricultural Development (INDAP) has distributed over 26,000 kilograms of animal feed to producers in La Higuera to mitigate the effects of recent weather systems. Meanwhile, in Puno, Peru, authorities have warned of a water deficit that threatens local agriculture and livestock, specifically impacting high-Andean ecosystems.

Technological advancements are also being integrated into the agricultural sector. In Argentina, new AI-driven applications are being introduced to help livestock producers automate field management via mobile devices. Similarly, in Brazil, agrotech startups are utilizing AI and data from strategic scales to predict the optimal time for livestock sales, aiming to increase economic predictability in animal production.
