Inde Navarrette emerges as horror breakout star in Curry Barker's 'Obsession'

Inde Navarrette, a 25‑year‑old actress from Tucson, Arizona, headlines Curry Barker’s supernatural horror film Obsession. Navarrette plays Nikki Freeman, a young woman who becomes the object of a magical wish involving a mysterious “One Wish Willow” stick. The plot follows her friend Bear, played by Michael Johnston, whose wish to be loved turns deadly, leading to a toxic, obsessive relationship.

Obsession opened on 13 May 2026, earning US$23.1 million worldwide on a budget of less than US$1 million. Critics highlight Navarrette’s performance as a revelation, noting her ability to shift between six different moods. She cites Toni Collette’s work in Hereditary and Mia Goth’s Pearl as inspirations.

Director Curry Barker, known for the YouTube comedy duo with Cooper Tomlinson and shorts such as The Chair and Milk & Serial, brings his blend of macabre comedy to the feature. The film’s blend of horror and dark humor has drawn attention to Navarrette as a new “scream queen.”
