Indemaya provides repatriation support for Yucatecan migrants
The Institute for the Development of Mayan Culture (Indemaya) in Yucatán is providing assistance and follow-up services to Yucatecan migrants returning from the United States. Currently, the agency is providing integral advisory services to more than 24 families who have requested institutional support to locate or receive relatives.
Authorities noted that there is no exact figure for the total number of recently deported Yucatecans due to increased operations by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the varying nature of returns, which include both formal deportations and voluntary repatriations.
To manage these processes, Indemaya coordinates with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), Mexican consulates in the U.S., municipal authorities, and non-governmental organizations. This coordination aims to ensure safe accompaniment from initial consular attention through to the migrant's reintegration with their families in Yucatán. Government estimates suggest approximately 350,000 Yucatecans currently reside abroad, primarily in the United States.
