Independent Amazon sellers supported $183.9 billion in U.S. GDP
An analysis by Oxford Economics, commissioned by Amazon, indicates that independent sellers on Amazon’s U.S. store supported $183.9 billion in U.S. GDP in 2025. The report highlights the ‘multiplier effect,’ where economic activity from one business supports additional activity through supply chains and wage-funded spending.
The study found that the total economic impact of these sellers was 3.2 times their direct economic impact. For every $100 in direct GDP generated, the associated total economic impact was $320. This aligns with broader data from the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Office of Advocacy, which noted that small businesses accounted for 43.5% of U.S. GDP and 45.9% of private-sector employment in 2025.
Real-world applications of this effect are seen in companies like Revitalize Charging Solutions in Fort Worth, Texas. The manufacturer utilizes local businesses, such as Accurate Metal Stamping in Richland Hills and various contract manufacturers in Richardson, to produce components for their home EV chargers.
