Independent Arts secures funding for Wavelength school project

Independent Arts, a creative health charity based on the Isle of Wight, has secured funding from the Paul Hamlyn Foundation to relaunch its Wavelength project. The programme, which previously operated between 2020 and 2023, is scheduled to return in January 2027 and will run through 2028.

The new phase of the project will expand to eight additional primary schools. It will feature termly artist residencies led by local artists across various creative disciplines, aiming to help children explore science through the arts. The initiative is designed to support student wellbeing, confidence, and engagement with learning, particularly for pupils with additional needs.

In addition to working with students, the programme intends to foster partnerships with local heritage and cultural organisations. It also aims to assist teachers in developing arts-based approaches and creative wellbeing practices within the classroom.
