Premier League clubs face new levy for Independent Football Regulator
The Independent Football Regulator (IFR) has proposed an annual levy of £20.3 million to fund its operations, with top-tier Premier League clubs expected to bear the largest portion of the cost. Under the proposal, clubs earning over £150 million in annual commercial revenue and participating in UEFA competitions could be billed approximately £1.8 million each.
IFR CEO Richard Monks described the plan as a “fair and balanced approach,” noting that most clubs would contribute roughly 0.1 per cent of their annual revenues. While the top six clubs could potentially contribute £19.2 million of the total levy, the IFR stated that most top-flight teams would pay around £600,000, while clubs in the National League would contribute less than £600.
The levy aims to create a more sustainable football ecosystem. However, some Premier League executives have previously expressed concerns regarding the necessity of the regulator and the financial burden of its funding.
