Police Union responds to Skopje–Tetovo highway incident

The Independent Police Union has issued a strong response regarding a controversial police intervention on the Skopje–Tetovo highway. The union claims that during the operation, suspects initially attempted to run over officers with a vehicle and subsequently seized a service weapon from one of the officers.

According to the union, the suspects caused several traffic accidents while attempting to flee, resulting in injuries. Subsequent searches led to the discovery of drugs. This statement follows public outcry and allegations from political entities, including DUI and the Alliance for Albanians, regarding the potential excessive use of force against two young men.

The union has condemned attempts to politicize the incident or assign it an ethnic dimension, stating that crime of this nature “has no ethnic borders.” They have called for a thorough investigation by relevant institutions into all circumstances of the event, including the conduct of the police officers involved.
