Independent REM Council members boycott electronic session
Independent members of Serbia’s Regulatory Body for Electronic Media (REM) Council have refused to participate in a closed electronic session, resulting in a lack of quorum. The boycott by members Rodoljub Šabić, Ira Prodanov Krajišnik, Dubravka Valić Nedeljković, and Mileva Malešić prevented the Council from making decisions on several agenda items.
Key items on the agenda included the potential initiation of proceedings against media outlets TV Informer, Prva, and N1 due to suspected violations of the Law on Electronic Media. Additionally, the session was intended to address media law compliance and the control of media operations.
Rodoljub Šabić stated that the decision to hold a closed session was an attempt to avoid public scrutiny during the end of an election campaign marked by legal violations. He accused the Council President, Stevica Smederevac, of using the 4:4 split to block measures and conceal irregularities in media representation. REM officials stated that all unaddressed items will be transferred to the next scheduled session.
