Independiente appoints Jadson Viera as new head coach

Independiente has appointed Jadson Viera as its new head coach, succeeding Gustavo Quinteros. Viera, a 45-year-old Brazilian-Uruguayan national, becomes the club's first foreign manager in 16 years.

The contract is set for one year but includes a specific rescission clause tied to the club's upcoming elections. This clause allows the new administration, if elected, to terminate the agreement in December without financial commitment from the current board.

Viera, who previously won the Uruguayan championship with Nacional in 2025, will not lead the team for the upcoming match against Lanús. Instead, reserve team coaches Carlos Matheu and Eduardo Tuzzio will serve as interim managers until the new technical staff formally assumes control of the professional squad.
