Former and current Independiente Santa Fe players have shared personal struggles regarding mental health and addiction.
Uruguayan striker Franco Fagúndez revealed that he previously suffered from depression, noting that he experienced dark thoughts and even felt the urge to crash his car while driving. Fagúndez, who has faced recent professional challenges including a knee injury and family difficulties, emphasized the importance of seeking professional help, stating, “One can never face problems alone.”
Meanwhile, former Santa Fe midfielder Jonathan Gómez disclosed that a gambling addiction has caused significant personal and financial ruin. Gómez reported losing his savings and accumulating $50,000 in debt due to online betting. He described the addiction as a “drug” that has strained his family relationships and paused his professional career. He has since begun specialized treatment to recover.
