Indi Charlesworth named Hunter Young Volunteer of the Year
Fourteen-year-old Indi Charlesworth from Singleton has been named the Hunter Young Volunteer of the Year. Charlesworth volunteers with the Last Stop Donkey Program based in Whittingham, where she assists with training and caring for rescued donkeys intended for re-homing or use as companion animals.
Her work includes assisting with veterinary procedures, livestock handling, paddock management, and educational programs. The Last Stop Donkey Program, established in 2021, pairs rescued donkeys from the Northern Territory and Queensland with livestock producers to serve as stock guardians against wild dog attacks. The program also collaborates with students from St Catherine's Catholic College to prepare the animals for placement.
Charlesworth’s recognition is part of the NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards, an annual program celebrating community service and dedication across New South Wales.
