India's AI adoption outpaces workforce readiness

A Kyndryl report finds that while 56% of Indian enterprises have deployed AI broadly, only 25% consider their workforce prepared for the technology, a 12‑point drop from the previous year. Leaders express concern that AI’s rapid advance will outstrip skills, governance and operating‑model capabilities.

LinkedIn data shows 84% of Indian C‑suite executives say AI is creating new roles, especially among chief marketing officers, and that AI inputs now inform most corporate decisions. Yet 51% cite a lack of visibility into future skill needs.

Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh highlighted AI’s potential in agriculture, estimating that AI‑driven optimisation could save each farmer about Rs 5,000 per year, adding roughly Rs 70,000 crore to the national agricultural economy.

Analysts note that AI is shifting Global Capability Centers from pure execution hubs to “judgment centers,” requiring redesign of roles, upskilling, and new governance, as highlighted in a Zinnov commentary on Indian GCCs.
