India Accelerates iPhone Assembly, Hiring Tens of Thousands Amid Supply‑Chain Trust Concerns

India now assembles every iPhone model sold worldwide, with Foxconn operating a large plant in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, and a newer facility in Devanahalli near Bengaluru, employing roughly 41,000 and 30,000 workers respectively. Tata Electronics, after acquiring Wistron and Pegatron’s Indian operations, runs plants in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu and plans to expand its workforce to about 50,000 at each site. The factories have created a rapid hiring surge, especially among young women, and are expected to raise India’s share of global iPhone production from 6 % in 2022 to over 25 % by 2026. In June, a cyberattack on Tata Electronics leaked more than 200,000 files, prompting analysts to warn that while India can scale production, it must also improve information governance, supplier discipline and cyber‑operational integration to sustain supply‑chain trust.
