India reports significant environmental and infrastructure progress
Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted India’s significant environmental and infrastructural advancements over the past 12 years during a two-day international conference on ‘Environment, Future of Climate Change’ in New Delhi.
Addressing the event organized by the National Green Tribunal, Modi noted that India has met its climate commitments ahead of schedule and has implemented a ban on single-use plastics. He cited the massive growth in electric vehicle sales, rising from 3,000 units annually before 2014 to 2.5 million last year, as a key indicator of progress.
Additionally, the Prime Minister pointed to the expansion of metro rail services from five cities to twenty, the electrification of the railway sector to save diesel, and the implementation of FASTag to reduce fuel consumption and idling at toll plazas.
