India achieves target of 110 million Farmer IDs ahead of schedule

India has reached its goal of creating 11 crore (110 million) Farmer IDs, hitting the milestone five months before the March 31, 2027, deadline. Announced by Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the achievement was completed under the Digital Agriculture Mission.

The Farmer ID serves as a unique digital identity designed to provide transparent and efficient access to government schemes, bank credit, crop insurance, and disaster relief. By establishing a verified digital database, the system aims to reduce paperwork, eliminate the need for repeated document verification, and minimize the role of intermediaries in the procurement process.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, the initiative will strengthen the delivery of services such as Kisan Credit Cards, Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana claims, and Minimum Support Price (MSP) procurement. Over 6 crore farmers have already received direct benefits through the ID-based service delivery system. The ministry noted that state governments and field-level officials worked in coordination to meet the target early.
