India advances digital connectivity through global tech ties and rural infrastructure plans
India is advancing its digital infrastructure through both national policy and international cooperation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with GSMA Board members to discuss next-generation connectivity, including 6G, AI, and the importance of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) for the Global South. Modi emphasized the need for affordable, accessible technology and called for global standards to combat cyber fraud and the rise of deepfakes.
At the state level, Odisha is accelerating its digital expansion. Chief Secretary Anu Garg has directed a time-bound action plan to achieve 4G saturation and improve broadband access in rural, remote, and border regions. The initiative involves mapping unserved areas and resolving infrastructure bottlenecks, such as road access to mobile tower sites, to ensure comprehensive connectivity across the state.
