India advances financial inclusion through policy and nationwide campaigns
India is intensifying its focus on financial inclusion through both high-level policy discussions and nationwide grassroots campaigns. At the RBI Samvad 2026 international seminar, Chief Economic Adviser V. Anantha Nageswaran stated that financial inclusion is a core objective of central banking, noting that access to finance can drive rising incomes and economic opportunities.
The seminar included discussions with central bank officials from Zimbabwe, Guyana, and Paraguay, focusing on consumer protection, digital tools, and the role of Artificial Intelligence in finance. Experts emphasized the need to transition from mere access to effective usage and empowerment to build economic resilience.
Simultaneously, the Union Finance Ministry’s Department of Financial Services is launching a nationwide campaign from October 21 to December 31. This drive aims to saturate financial inclusion schemes across 2.70 lakh gram panchayats and urban local bodies. The campaign will facilitate enrollments in various government programs, including Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, and Atal Pension Yojana, while also addressing Aadhaar seeding, account re-KYC, and awareness regarding digital fraud.
