India advances major infrastructure and urban flood mitigation projects

The Indian government has reported significant progress in both urban flood mitigation and national infrastructure development. In Guwahati, a flood mitigation project sanctioned for Rs 222.22 crore is currently being implemented as part of the Urban Flood Risk Management Programme. Of the total amount, the Centre has sanctioned Rs 180 crore from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund, with Rs 54 crore released to date. The project aims to improve stormwater conveyance and drainage resilience to combat recurring waterlogging in the city.

On a national scale, expenditure on 1,847 major central infrastructure projects has reached Rs 21.97 lakh crore, representing over 54 per cent of the total Rs 40.54 lakh crore earmarked for these works. The transport and logistics sector accounts for the largest portion, with 1,341 projects valued at Rs 22.32 lakh crore. These projects are being monitored via the PAIMANA digital platform, developed by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, which tracks performance across sectors including power, civil aviation, telecommunications, railways, roads, and ports.
