India advances maritime and strategic ties with Saudi Arabia and Oman

India is advancing maritime and strategic partnerships with Saudi Arabia and Oman through high-level bilateral discussions in New Delhi.

Following the Sagarmanthan: The Great Oceans Dialogue 2026, Indian Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal met with Saudi Ports Authority President Suliman Al-Mazroua. The talks focused on Saudi investment in Indian port projects, specifically Vadhavan and Galathea Bay, potentially through India’s Maritime Development Fund. The two nations also discussed cooperation in shipbuilding, seafarer training, and the maritime energy sector.

Separately, India and Oman held the 15th Strategic Consultative Group meeting. Officials from both nations reviewed bilateral relations, including trade, investment, energy, and defense. A key focus of the meeting was regional security and maritime cooperation, particularly regarding developments in the Strait of Hormuz and the implementation of the India-Oman Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.
